Venue Health & Safety

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, please keep the following health and safety considerations in mind:

Environment & Weather:
  • Unpredictable mountain weather – pack layers, waterproof gear, and be prepared for sudden temperature drops.
  • Sun exposure – the higher elevation means stronger UV rays, so sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are recommended.
  • Wind & storms – mountain winds can pick up quickly, and storms roll in fast. Seek shelter if needed.
Wildlife & Nature Safety
  • Wildlife encounters – Kananaskis is home to bears, cougars, and elk. Make noise while hiking, and carry bear spray if venturing off the main trails.
  • Insects – mosquitoes and ticks are present in June; use bug spray and check for ticks after time outdoors.
  • Slippery or uneven terrain – trails may be muddy, rocky, or steep, so wear proper footwear and walk carefully.
Medical & Emergency Preparedness
  • First aid – basic first aid is available on-site, but bring any personal medications or needed medical supplies. Details on the location of first aid facilities will be provided closer to the event.
  • Hydration & altitude awareness – drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and any potential mild altitude sickness symptoms.
  • Cell Service & Connectivity – we can’t guarantee reliable cell service at the Tim Hortons Children’s Ranch, as signal strength may vary depending on your provider and location. Please plan accordingly and be aware that connectivity could be limited at times.
Venue-Specific Considerations
  • Fire safety – we will follow all fire safety guidelines and any local fire bans as outlined by staff at the ranch.
  • Facility guidelines – respect all camp rules, quiet hours, and designated areas for activities.
  • Allergies & food safety – if you have dietary restrictions, ensure your needs are communicated in advance. As a reminder, outside food is not permitted on-site due to allergy and dietary restrictions. Tim Horton’s  Kid’s Camp is also a nut-aware facility to ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees. We encourage participants planning to attend to take advantage of the meal plan provided, which has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate a variety of dietary needs.
